Thom Scott-Phillips is a cognitive and social scientist based at Central European University. He works in particular on communication, the evolution of the human mind, and on how the flow of information in human groups generates culture and society. He wrote a widely acclaimed book, Speaking Our Minds, about the evolution of language, and has received several international awards for his academic work.

 

He is also a dancer and dance teacher, specializing in the lindy hop.

 

In his TEDxCEU talk Thom will talk about communication beyond language, and about how some cultural practices – like partnered dance – exploit the flexibility and dynamism that is so characteristic of human communication.
